Verizon Communications is a U.S broadband and telecommunications corporation. The company offers satellite, DSL and fiber-optic high-speed internet access. It is also engaged in the development of wireless 3G networks. Verizon Communication was formed in 2000 by the merger of the major telecommunication companies Bell Atlantic Corp. and GTE Corp. In January 2006, the company acquired an additional MCI, providing communication services on IP-protocol.
Verizon provides fixed-line and mobile communication (CDMA 800/1900 MHz) services of satellite broadband internet access, as well as information services and telephone directories. The company has global presence in 40 countries in North and South America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. As of 2014, Verizon is the largest American wireless communications service provider and a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
