The dollar rose to a monthly high against the yen in anticipation of release of the report, which may show that the number of housing starts in the U.S. reached a maximum of four years, and adding evidence that economic recovery is now stable.

At 12:30 GMT, Canada will announce the amount of transactions in foreign securities and the change in volume production deliveries in June. At 12:30 GMT the U.S. will be provided with a report on the volume of building permits issued and the number of bookmarks of new foundations for July.
